Creating a high quality voice recording on your computer can be deceivingly difficult. If you try to look up tutorials, most of the recommended software is either too expensive or too complex for a beginner to use. Most videos talk about plugins and show off complex interfaces teeming with buttons and options that require hours of practice and learning to make sense of. We didn’t like that either, so in this article we wanted to present you with a faster, simpler, more convenient alternative:
Flixier is an online voice recorder that you can use in your web browser. It doesn’t require any installs or downloads, all you need to do is click on the blue Get Started button on their web page and you can jump right in. The tool itself is a full blown video editor, but it also functions perfectly as an online audio recorder. It can record your voice using your computer’s built-in microphone, but it’s also compatible with any headsets or professional studio microphones that you might connect to your computer.

Here’s how it all works:
Step 1: Open Flixier online audio recorder
This first step is pretty self-explanatory. Type Flixier into Google, go to their website and click on Get Started to start the app up in your web browser.
You’ll be met with an import screen, but since you want to record your own voice, you should ignore it. To access the online sound recorder component, close this menu and then click on the blue Record button and choose Audio.
Your browser will probably ask if you want to allow Flixier to use your microphone. Make sure to allow it, otherwise you won’t be able to record yourself.
Step 2: Select the right recording device and start talking
Next up, click on the little cog wheel icon in the lower left corner of the Record menu to select your preferred recording device. This is how you can switch between your laptop’s built-in microphone, a headset or any other external microphone.
After you select the proper recording device, click the red Record button to start recording your voice. When you’re done, click the red button again to stop your recording. The new menu that pops up will allow you to preview your recording. You can save your recording and add it to the timeline by clicking on the green button or you can re-take it in case you aren’t satisfied with it.
Step 3: Save and edit your voice recording online
When you’re happy with your recording, click the green button to save it, then click Import All to add it to your timeline.
As you’ve probably figured out by now, Flixier isn’t just an online microphone recorder. It also offers plenty of editing features which we are going to explore in this article. Let’s take a look at how you can edit your recorded voice clip:
To cut out mistakes and unwanted parts, drag the orange playhead to the right time and then either click the Cut button or press the S key on your keyboard to make a cut there. To trim the beginning or ending of your audio recording, you can just drag the ends of it on the timeline with your mouse button.
To change the volume or gain of your recording, select it on the timeline and then use the sliders on the right side menu. This menu is also where you can add a fade-in or fade-out to your audio clips.
If you want to improve the sound of your recording a little, you can also apply an equalizer from this same menu. There is a vocal preset already available, but if you want to make sure you get the best possible results, you can choose the Custom option and click on Customize to create your own EQ settings using a 10-band equalizer.
Now that you know how it works, it’s time to get to work. Head over to Flixier and start using the free online audio recorder right now! You don’t even need to create an account in order to use it!
