The product manual explains most features well. Below are a few points we found could be clearer or were missed.
Using The settings / Date & Time Software (The software is primarily designed for Windows operating systems)
Connect the MR-150 to your PC with the USB cable. The file explorer window should open automatically. If not, find “MemoQ” under “This PC” open it and then open the “Time Setup” file.
To accurately set the time and configure other settings on your MR-150, you will likely need access to a computer running Windows. Once the settings are configured on a Windows machine, you should be able to use the recorder and play back files on your Mac by connecting it as a USB drive. However, any future setting changes might require connecting to a Windows PC again. You can also make some of the changes using the controller per the manual.
When choosing recording quality on your MR-150, options like PCM offer the highest audio fidelity but result in the largest files and higher battery consumption, while HQ and XHQ use compression for smaller sizes and more efficient power use. A practical balance is probably HQ. For everyday recordings like lectures or notes, HQ provides good clarity with manageable file sizes and less drain on the battery. Unless you have specific needs demanding the absolute best audio quality (like recording music or detailed forensic analysis), the HQ setting offers a sensible compromise.
VOS (Voice Operated Recording) is useful for saving time when reviewing your recordings (no long hours of silence to skip through) and storage space by only recording when sound is detected. However, for critical recordings or quiet sounds, choose continuous mode. VOS might miss audio below its activation level, while continuous recording captures everything audible.
Changing the microphone sensitivity (“Mic Sense”) For most recordings, the “Middle” sensitivity setting works best. If you’re recording very quiet sounds, try “High.” In loud places, switch to “Low” for clearer results.
When using scheduled recording you can set the time that you want it to start recording and the time that you want it to stop recording. It will follow this schedule every day until changed.
After making setting changes, remember to click the “start” button and then disconnect the recorder from your PC. The new settings will not take effect until the device is unplugged from the computer, making the time inaccurate.
****Before using the recorder for important recordings, always test it with your chosen settings in a similar environment to ensure it captures audio as expected. ****
How to Charge the Battery:
- Connect the micro-USB side of the USB cable to the recorder and the bigger side to a PC or 5v USB power supply using the provided USB cable. • It takes about 1 hour to fully charge.
How To Record
To begin recording, simply slide the power/record switch from the OFF position (indicated by a square) to the ON/Record position (indicated by a circle). The device will then start recording based on your current settings.
For scheduled recording to work correctly, ensure the recorder is powered OFF after you’ve set the schedule. It will automatically power on at the designated start time and record according to your configured settings.
- NOTE: If the device runs out of power during the recording, it will finalize and save the file before the battery dies
Listening to the recordings.
You can listen to recordings on the device with the included controller and headphones, but navigating many files can be cumbersome. We recommend one of the methods below.
To play recordings on your computer:
- Turn OFF the recorder (the recorder won’t be recognized if it is on).
- Connect it to your computer’s USB port using the provided cable.
- Open File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac). Look for a removable drive named “MEMOQ” (or similar).
- Double-click the “MEMOQ” drive.
- Open the “VOICE” folder.
- Try double-clicking the audio file to play it. If that doesn’t work, right-click the file, select “Open with,” and choose a media player like “Windows Media Player” (avoid “Groove Music”) or VLC Media Player (recommended: http://www.videolan.org/vlc).
Play recordings on your OTG capable smartphone or tablet:
